Our Purpose

The Thompson Historical Society is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation, education and celebration of Thompson history.

In this capacity we:

  • Curate the THS Museum at the 1902 Ellen Larned Memorial Building, the Tourtellotte Memorial Room/Museum and the Old 1842 Town Hall
  • Maintain and archive more than 100,000 Thompson historical records
  • Manage several significant historical collections to include the Ramsdell Transportation Collection, the Tourtellotte Collection, the Henry Brown Civil War Letters, the Conrad Kronholm Water Collection
  • Are conservators for a Native American lithic site
  • Hold a position on the Tourtellotte Board of Trustees
  • Serve as the Connecticut State-mandated town historian
  • Run the annual Christmas Gift Shop
  • Conduct lectures and historical educational programs in our schools and community
  • Research and make available stories of Thompson's remarkable past
  • Manage and maintain two historical buildings

All the above programs are possible because of our members and friends.
