River Mill Public Information Meeting - November 20, 2019

Thank you, Janet Blanchette, Chairman of the Mill Sites Redevelopment Advisory Committee; Tyra Penn, Director of Planning and Development; and Kelsey Giansanti from CME for the fantastic River Mill neighborhood update informational meeting last night. The work being done by this important advisory committee and our Planning and Development office is instrumental to this project and the redevelopment of the Route 12/Main Street Corridor. The enthusiasm of all the state, federal and local agency representatives who also attended is such a positive sign for the forward progression of the project. A huge thanks as well to John Gumpert, River Mill project developer, for making monthly trips to Connecticut from North Carolina for ongoing meetings with those same officials and agencies. John understands, from his extensive experience with complicated mill conversions, how important these information meetings are, to share with residents the progress he has made thus far and to answer questions about how the project keeps moving forward. To all the residents in attendance last night, your support is vital to this project as well, so thank you for coming out! To all those in the room last night who serve Thompson in one way or another or in multiple ways whether you are a board, commission, or committee member, a director of a board for a non-profit like Thompson Together, Inc., Thompson Historical Society or TEEG, or to those of you who donate your time to public safety, the installation of playgrounds, the community garden, work on a cemetery restoration, participate in roadside and river cleanup, or help with holiday giving your efforts are what make Thompson a vibrant community. Thank you for joining us at last night’s meeting, and thank you as well for all of your efforts, year in and year out. To those who haven’t found your volunteer niche, we encourage you to reach out to one of the non-profits mentioned above or visit us at Town Hall. There is something here that will excite and engage you; that will also make Thompson an even better place to live. Great night everyone!
