Where is the Thompson BAR Project Area?

The Project Area is the heart of Thompson in every respect. The most populated area of Town, it comprises the Town’s historic, civic, educational and business districts. It stretches over two miles through the French River Valley, from the junction of Riverside Drive (Route 12) and Quinebaug Rd. (Route 131) in the north, to the intersection of Riverside Drive and Route 200 in the south. Route 12 and the Genesee-Wyoming (formerly Providence & Worcester) Railroad parallel the French River through the entire Project Area. The Project Area is bracketed by the Town’s two largest brownfield sites: The River Mill in the North, and the former Belding-Corticelli mill site in the south. Between these are located all of Thompson’s municipal offices, its public elementary, middle and high schools, Library/Community Center, emergency services, religious organizations and private schools, commercial enterprises, light industries, and many multifamily and single-family residences.
