Thompson’s Mill Sites Redevelopment Advisory Committee (MSRAC) is hosting a public information session to share information about the upcoming repairs to the sidewalks for Riverside Drive. The presentation will take place on Wednesday, 24 February at 6 p.m., via Zoom.

The project to repair 7,400 feet of sidewalk along Riverside Drive is made possible with funding from a 2018 DECD Brownfield Area Revitalization (BAR) Grant, and a recently awarded construction grant under the ConnDOT LOTCIP program. The $2.1 million in LOTCIP funds will replace the existing cracked, uneven and narrow sidewalks with a smooth clean surface and granite curbs, providing a major improvement for area residents. Functional improvements will also include updated pedestrian crossings, ADA ramps, a bus shelter at Town Hall for the NECCOG bus line, and landscaping and parking improvements at Rawson Avenue. Construction is anticipated to take place during the summer of 2021.

For the public presentation, members of MSRAC and the Director of Planning & Development will be available to share the project plans and answer any questions the public may have. This project is one of several initiatives developed to revitalize the historic downtown district of North Grosvenordale, in anticipation of the planned renovation of the River Mill complex at 929 Riverside Drive. That redevelopment will bring 300 market rate apartments with mixed use amenities into the neighborhood. The improved sidewalks will better connect current and future residents with area shops and restaurants as well as the public schools, Town Hall and Post Office in the historic heart of Thompson.
