Thompson announces Poet Laureate

The Town of Thompson is excited to name its inaugural volunteer Poet Laureate, Steve Veilleux.

Steve has lived in the Town of Thompson for ten years and has been an active proponent of the arts, both written and visual. He has served on the board of the Empty Spaces Gallery in Putnam and is currently on the board of the Art Guild Northeast. He has published a collection of his poetry titled Event Horizon.

He has performed at Roseland Pond, Starlite Café, Victoria Station and Sawdust Café, the Rose Room, Booklover’s, and at the Senexet Grange during their 2022 Poetry Series.  He will co-host the Packing House Poetry Series beginning in September 2023.  He has also hosted readings at his home in North Grosvenordale.

As Poet Laureate, he plans to continue in the roles described above, and would love to run poetry writing workshops, perhaps with Seniors, and with interested high- school students. He would also like to see public readings at the Library/Community Center, as well as appropriate Town Events.

Steve will read from his works at 1:15 pm at Thompson Community Day, Sept. 30, 2023 in Riverside Park, North Grosvenordale, CT.  Stop by and say hello!
