4 May 2020, Thompson

We had a beautiful but breezy Saturday morning & afternoon at the first drop-off date for “Nips for Holiday Cheer”, over the weekend. Here are the numbers:

 Drop-off took place at the Thompson Highway Garage from 3 hours, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  9 volunteers from Thompson Together, the Thompson Economic Development Commission and town staff did all the work of accepting the bagged nips, recording residents contact information, and counting every single nip

 The collected nips for the month of April filled 30 39-gallon trash bags

 The super-collector for the month was a single Thompson resident who turned in 9,933 nips

 The verified total of all nips turned in on Saturday = 28,395 pieces!

Initial funds to support this program were provided by the Thompson Economic Development Commission, and have since been supplemented by private donations from W.T. Rich Company of Newton, MA; the local Thompson Troop #6511 of the Girl Scouts of CT; Venture Communications & Security of Danielson, CT; the non-profit Three Tiers for Connecticut, of Norwalk, CT; and The Last Green Valley.

As it turns out, our success has outstripped our projections! In order to continue this program going forward, we are seeking additional funders. Individuals, private companies or charitable organizations wishing to make a contribution are encouraged to contact Tyra Penn-Gesek, Director of Planning and Development for the town of Thompson: planner@thompsonct.org

Our next drop-off date is scheduled for Saturday, 6 June 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
