First Drop-off date scheduled for “Nips for Holiday Cheer”

First Drop-off date scheduled for “Nips for Holiday Cheer” 27 April 2020, Thompson

To cap off Thompson Together’s annual April roadside clean-up, the first drop-off date for collected nip bottles has been scheduled for Saturday 2 May. As a reminder: Thompson Together has partnered with the Economic Development Commission this year on a special initiative “Nips for Holiday Cheer”, encouraging Thompson residents to collect and turn in discarded nips for the value of 10-cents per nip. Volunteers will accept the turned-in nips, verify the quantity, and keep a running tally for each participating Thompson resident for the program duration. At the conclusion of the program, the reward will be paid out in the form of a gift card to a local retailer, in time for the holiday season! Please note that participation in this program is limited to Thompson residents, only.

Here are the instructions for the first drop-off date:

 Volunteers will be stationed at the Thompson Highway Garage from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 Bring your nips bagged and labelled with your name, address, phone #, email address and the quantity in each bag. Our volunteers will also verify the number collected.

 Pull into the highway garage lot and follow the cones to the collection point. Stay in your vehicle until a volunteer comes to you in your turn.

 When the volunteer comes to take your bagged collection, you may be asked to leave your vehicle to help carry them over to the collection area, particularly if you have a large number.

 The volunteer will log your name and contact information on a tally sheet. Small quantities of nips may be counted and verified while you wait. For very large quantities, the volunteers will have to verify the count on your tally sheet after drop off.

 Our volunteers will be wearing masks and gloves and observing 6-ft separation rules. We ask that you do the same, out of respect for the health and safety of our volunteers.

 Roadside nips are dirty. If you have the chance to spray down the contents of your bags with a garden hose before dropping them off and transfer them to clean dry bags, our volunteers would appreciate your thoughtfulness!

Early reports are that thousands of nips have already been cleared off Thompson’s roadways! We are excited that such a simple idea has proved such a success, right out of the gate, and we are equally excited to thank participating Thompson residents with a little holiday cheer, later on in the year!
