The 9 Lives of Engine #9 Premier

The Nine Lives of Engine #9
Event Date:
Saturday, August 14, 2021 - 1:15pm to 2:25pm

The Nine Lives of Number 9 tells the true story of the Ramsdell locomotive. The narrow gauge locomotive ran for a period at the WW&F Rail line in Maine. The locomotive was mothballed and might have ended up as scrap if a West Thompson farmer, Frank Ramsdell and other investors, had not rescued it. The locomotive was brought to Frank's farm in 1937 to be restored, but WWII prevented Frank's dream of a theme park from getting off the ground. There, in a shed, the locomotive sat and eventually, Frank's daughter Alice, took over his mission, and then Dale King, Alice's nephew made the dream come true. Join us and learn the story of its reincarnation, and the dedicated people who made it happen.

The Ramsdell Transportation Collection, housed in the Tourtellotte Memorial High School, will be available for viewing from 1-4 PM that day with the other Kenney Store and Post Office and the TMHS Memorial Room also open. Join us for the reopening of these Thompson museums.
