Second Drop Off for "Nips for Holiday Cheer"

The second drop-off date for collected nip bottles has been scheduled for Saturday 6 June. As a reminder: Thompson Together has partnered with the Economic Development Commission this year on a special initiative “Nips for Holiday Cheer”, encouraging Thompson residents to collect and turn in discarded nips for the value of 10-cents per nip. Volunteers will accept the turned-in nips, verify the quantity, and keep a running tally for each participating Thompson resident for the program duration. At the conclusion of the program, the reward will be paid out in the form of a gift card to a local retailer. Please note that participation in this program is limited to Thompson residents, only.

Please also note: due to a much stronger-than-anticipated response during our first month, and the challenges presented by fundraising to support the program during the current economic uncertainty, future months’ collections are in doubt. At this time, please consider the June collection date likely to be the final drop-off. If we are able to secure funding for future collections, we will notify the public as soon as we are able.

Here are the instructions for drop-off

 Volunteers will be stationed at the Thompson Highway Garage from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
 Bring your nips bagged and labelled with your name, address, phone #, email address and the quantity
in each bag. Our volunteers will also verify the number collected.
 Pull into the highway garage lot and follow the cones to the collection point. Stay in your vehicle until a
volunteer comes to you in your turn.
 When the volunteer comes to take your bagged collection, you may be asked to leave your vehicle to
help carry them over to the collection area, particularly if you have a large number.
 The volunteer will log your name and contact information on a tally sheet. Small quantities of nips
may be counted and verified while you wait. For very large quantities, the volunteers will have to verify
the count on your tally sheet after drop off.
 Our volunteers will be wearing masks and gloves and observing 6-ft separation rules. We ask that
you do the same, out of respect for the health and safety of our volunteers.
