Kenney's Store, the Heart of Mechanicsville

Kenney's Store, the Heart of Mechanicsville - A Thompson Historical Society Event Presented by Joseph Iamartino

Founded in 1827, the village of Mechanicsville brought immigrants to our town including the Kenney family. The story of the Kenney family, the village and the general store, post office and train depot will be told using rarely seen photos from the Kenney family and the THS archives. Before and after the presentation, the Kenney store & post office exhibit will be opened for visitors in its new home at Tourtellotte Memorial High School. Donated by Glennyce Kenney, the store and post office has been restored to match as exactly as possibly what it looked like when it was in its original Mechanicsville home.

The restoration team, led by John Rice and Joe Lindley, included Paul Provost, David Eddy and his friend Charlie & his truck, Charlie Panu, Blair Cole, Ginny Flood, and others. Many thanks to Bill Birch, Melinda and all TMHS who supported this project. Come out and see the new room which also has display panels celebrating all 10 of the villages of Thompson.
