A Grant for the Garden by the River

On Tuesday February 19, the Eastern CT Association of Realtors officially announced a grant award to the Town of Thompson, under its Level 2 Placemaking program. The town will receive $5000 for installation of park and playground amenities to enhance the Thompson Garden By the River, a brand new community garden located at 65 Main Street. With volunteer construction provided by THMS students, under the direction of technology instructor Mike Joyce; and seed money from Thompson’s Economic Development Commission, the raised beds for the garden were installed on site in autumn of 2019. A grant award from The Last Green Valley will go towards funding the soils, compost, tools and other supporting materials for the garden’s first planting season, Spring of 2020. By the end of this year, we hope to have a beautiful new mini-park installed, for the enjoyment of all Thompson residents.

The recently formed volunteer committee for the planning of Garden By the River is busy planning an event to open the spring season! If you are interested in participating as a gardener, please email: planner@thompsonct.org.
