Out-of-State Plates

Our office is often informed about vehicles owned by residents with out-of-state plates. New residents have 60 days to change their registration to their Connecticut residence. Failure to do so can result in a $1,000 fine. Also in accordance with Connecticut Statute, any vehicle not registered in this state is still subject to property tax in the town within which the vehicle in the normal course of operation leaves and returns or remains. Per statute, it shall be presumed that this would be the case for any resident's motor vehicle. The same would apply to any business which provides a vehicle to an employee that is a resident of the State of Connecticut.
