Thompson Together

We all have a cause that matters to us. And each cause has a voice. Some are louder than others. Some overshadow others, dismissing the more quiet call as unimportant, and causing division in our Thompson community.
How could Thompson be an even better place to live? Thompson Residents have identified 4 main town-wide initiatives to build a stronger, healthier community including:

Environment, Education, Economic Development and Communications (see group details below)
Local citizens have formed action groups to share ideas and work together to make good things happen! As a result, residents wanting better communications in town have met over the past 6 months and developed this town website! Additionally, local youth are fundraising for a town skate park, a Family Resource Directory for all Thompson households is being developed, over 300 residents participated in the May 2003 Beautification and Clean-Up Campaign, cleaning over 110 miles of town roads, 25 miles of state roads and collecting over 8 tons of litter. Future plans include anti-litter and recycling education, 2004 Resident Art show, Early Education Support efforts, a town newsletter and quarterly Community Potluck Gatherings. By combining shared visions, talents, passions and efforts, the Thompson community is successfully building common grounds for community problemsolving.

Ongoing Committees open to all Thompson Residents include:

Group 1 – Thompson Together for Education

  • More Cultural, Art & Music Opportunities
  • More Youth Education, Recreation & Athletic Opportunities
  • Early Childhood Development and supports for Birth to eight
  • More Parent/Residential Engagement in Schools
  • Develop more Parent Resources

Group 2 – Thompson Together for Environment

Recycling, Solid Waste, Town Cleanup and litter education

  • Open Space, Zoning, Rural Character
  • Beautification of Thompson by Involving Citizens in Community Service

Group 3 – Thompson Together for Responsible Economic Development

  • Promote Responsible Economic Development

Group 4 – Thompson Together for Better Communications

  • Greater Community Engagement and Better Communications
  • Bring Thompson Residents More Closely Together as a Community
